I am currently onboard the Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas sailing out of Galveston en route to Roatan, Honduras. I noted earlier that RCCL was having trouble with how their account balances displayed, and that problem seems to have resolved itself– I am now onboard and have received all of the packages and promotions I was expecting to receive. While I will publish my reviews of this trip over the next several weeks, I am trying to write as much as possible while still on board. Rather than the traditional style of travel blog reviewing a day or an entire cruise, I am going to review particular elements of this ship. Today I want to discuss the spa.
One of the challenges with going on a cruise is that you have to embark– show up and stand in several lines before you are eventually allowed to get on the ship. The good news is that Royal Caribbean seems to have this down for the Liberty of the Seas in Galveston, and our embarkation earlier this week was quite smooth. The new terminal helped. All Texans worthy of the name have, at some point, driven through Llano and eaten barbecue. It is simply what we do as a people. For those of you new to the area, welcome. My purpose here is to provide a guide to the two leading barbecue joints in the area so you can make an informed decision. Because OF COURSE you wouldn’t stop for a fast food hamburger for lunch. Both Cooper’s and Inman’s Kitchen provide excellent choices, and it is important for you to take sides. Seriously, this is the only thing my wife and I fight about.
I reported earlier that Royal Caribbean was showing incorrect balances for cruisers who had purchased additional items such as shore excursions, and I followed up later by saying that they did not see any problem. I am pleased to report today that the website again appears to be showing correct information. The total now simply shows the cruise total, and all of the packages I had originally purchased are still there. I will report back when I board the ship on Sunday, but it looks like this problem has been fixed. Huzzah!
Have you ever been to one of those places where you can watch people make fresh pasta after you have ordered it? There is a new Chinese place in Midland, TX called Noodles that does exactly that, and it is fantastic. It is located in a strip mall at the corner of Midkiff and Andrews Highway, and we have been there twice now. It can get really crowded at peak hours, but it is still a great addition to the local scene.
