I admit it. I make mistakes. We all do. Still, there is no excuse for some mistakes in life. I, for example, am a native Texan who has spent 40 of my 43 years in Texas. Of the 3 years I spent living in that part of the planet called Not Texas, 2 were spent living in Mexico City. You would think that would mean that I would know better than to order a breakfast taco/burrito from Starbucks of all places. Weakness overcame me about a week ago, however, and I tried it. Consider this post my apology for that mistake.
As is the way with such things, the steak, egg, and tomatillo wrap looked fantastic in the display counter. A bit of window fog prevented me from taking a good picture, but it really did look good. Good enough to get me to overlook the fact that a breakfast taco cost $4.95 and came out of shrink wrap. Unfortunately, what I got looked like the picture at the top of this post. Cut in half in my car, it looked like this:
Here’s the thing. As $5 breakfast tacos from shrink wrap go it isn’t that bad. It’s just that the money could have been better spent on 2 tacos from somebody who knew what they were doing, or alternatively perhaps on a latte. The steak tasted decent, but the eggs were pointless. If you searched deep enough, you could find a couple of sauteed onions. Starbucks knows what they are doing with drink and pastries, and henceforth I shall stick to those things.
EDIT ON 08 NOVEMBER 2017: I was back today and was able to get a picture of this in the display case. The picture below is what Starbucks thinks it should look like. If you want a better breakfast option and find yourself at Starbucks, you might try the ham and cheese croissant instead.
