One of the things American Airlines does a great job with is providing meal choices to their first class customers. You can select your meal online if you book at least 24 hours in advance. That means you always get your first choice. You are also able to order from American’s entire range of special meals. I flew from Dallas to San Diego earlier this month, and I selected the American Airlines spicy Asian vegetarian meal. The presentation was a little short, but the food was great. I would definitely order this again on a future flight. What should you expect?
Our meal started like most on American Airlines– we were offered warm nuts and a cocktail. I love that American offers Woodford Reserve bourbon on their flights. This flight also offered IFE, so I picked a movie and got the trip off to a good start.
On domestic flights, special meals are presented on one tray. The presentation of mine was odd. There were two curries– one with lentils, and one a korma with mixed vegetables. However, they had clearly taken the shape of whatever contained they had previously been in. That’s what caused the round edges you see in the top photo on this post.
But how did it taste?
However, the taste was excellent. Both curries were at a good temperature. The side salad was exceptional. The packaged bread was meant to be naan, and it was OK. The baklava was also alright. However, I was able to get a cookie with the rest of the cabin later in the flight. The next time you fly first on American, be sure to log in at least 24 hours in advance and select your meal. When you do, the American Airlines spicy Asian vegetarian special meal is a great choice.
