I wrote lasy week about the American Airlines Kosher meal. I was traveling from PHL to LAS on a dinner flight, and my buddy ordered that. On the same flight, I ordered the American Airlines Muslim meal. Neither of us ordered for religious reasons, and both of the meals were great. For my money, however, I would probably order the Muslim meal.
I’ve written it before, but one of the things American Airlines does particularly well is special meals. First class passengers can pre-order from a wide variety of options. They allow this option on any flight with meal service so long as you do so 24 hours in advance.
American Airlines special meals also allow all of the little extras of other meals. You still get the same beverage choices, bread choices, and dessert as other passengers. Please be aware that these additional options will very rarely comply with the religious and dietary requirements of a special meal. I received a bread and a dessert with my meal, although I partook of the other offerings as well.
The American Airlines Muslim meal is presented all on one tray. My entree was a fragrant rice with a chickpea curry and a lentil curry. It came with some “cocktail flatbreads” which were simply pita rounds. I also received an excellent salad. Dessert was a pre-packaged baklava.
Here is your… special meal
My flight attendant was exceptionally courteous, although it seemed she was the slightest bit uncomfortable serving me my meal. My friend got the Kosher meal. His flight attendant (it was a wide-bodied aircraft, and we had different attendants) said, “Here is your Kosher meal.” He said it loud and proud, much as he did with every other meal. My flight attendant said, “Here is your… special meal.” That moment was slightly odd. That said, the food was excellent. I would definitely order this again.
