I previously reviewed Grub Burger in Midland, TX, and this is not that post– a comprehensive review of the restaurant. The basic review remains the same. It is an amazing hamburger that you have to decide is worth paying for. Earlier today my kids and I made exactly that decision, and we went to eat there after church. I am writing this to talk about two of the burgers we tried– the Wagyu Market Burger and the Mac n’ Cheese burger. The former is the Grub Burger market burger, and the Mac n’ Cheese burger is a regular item on the menu. The “market burger” is a special burger rotating through the menu for a limited time. I am torn. In a perfect world, I resent having to choose between good food and good service when I go to a restaurant. When compelled to choose, I prefer the good food. The biggest part of why I go to a restaurant is to eat something delicious that I cannot easily prepare at home. That said, I also eat out because I can do things I can’t at home– for example, I can sit on my bum, wait for people to bring me stuff, and then have them clean it up and take it away. Good service matters less than good food, but it matters too. Happily, most restaurants don’t make me choose between the two. Sadly, Bubba’s 33 in both Midland and Odessa does. I eat there because the food is consistently good, the prices are reasonable, and I love the atmosphere of having lots of televisions on to watch lots of games of sportsball. I keep waiting a couple of months between visits because every time I go, something weird happens service wise which makes me want to not go back for a while. If you have a taste for delicious burritos as breakfast or lunch, La Burreria may be your place. Located in East Odessa on Billy Hext just off 191, the menu is pretty simple: The have burritos, some of which can also be served as a somewhat smaller tacos. In addition to that, they have drinks and…. a place to sit. Here’s the thing, though: Mexican food restaurants pretty much follow the same rule as good barbecue. If they have spend too much money making it look good with a lot of fancy extras, then you are eating in the wrong place. Continue reading “La Burreria Odessa”
Earlier this year I wrote about the new breakfast menu being served at Rosa’s Cafe (a chain in Texas, principally in Western Texas), and yesterday I wrote that they appears to be offering dine-in breakfast service. I got the chance to try the new breakfast menu today, and I think I found a new favorite breakfast spot. It isn’t the same as my favorite greasy spoon breakfasts (regardless of cuisine), but it is a great choice for a leisurely weekend breakfast with the family. I wrote earlier that Rosa’s Cafe (a Texas institution, particularly in the West of the state) had started a new breakfast menu. At that time, I noted that breakfast was only available via the drive-through. My family and I ate dinner tonight at the location on 191 and Faudree in Odessa, and they had several posters up about breakfast. None of those said anything about the drive through, so I asked. Eventually, somebody found a manager who understood that I was not trying to order breakfast tacos at 8 p.m. and she confirmed that the Rosa’s Cafe breakfast menu is now available for dine-in. There seemed to be some confusion on my question, and I cannot personally confirm it. However, a lot of site to this traffic is generated from that previous post. I wanted to let everybody know, and I will confirm one way or the other as soon as I can.
UPDATE- Please see my post from September 22 for the new breakfast menu and details on their dine-in breakfast.
