Caesars Bacchanal Buffet Las Vegas

Trust Dine Drink Travel. Two hours at the Caesars Bacchanal Buffet is plenty.

So I get it. I really do. Buffets are all you can eat. Proposing to limit what you eat at the buffet is, thus, a problem. When we went to the Caesars Bacchanal Buffet in Las Vegas the week between Christmas and New Years Day, we were concerned to see this sign. What do you mean we can only be there two hours? Then I remembered that I have been there several times before. The buffet always defeats me in much less time than this. The buffet here defines excess in Las Vegas. Here’s the thing, though: The food is excellent. It takes multiple rooms to hold all of the options, and almost all of the options are good. It is even worth the considerable price you have to pay. Bruxie Las Vegas for excellent fried chicken

Holy Chicken sandwich and Irish Nachos at Bruxie Las Vegas
Holy Chicken sandwich and Irish Nachos at Bruxie Las Vegas. We shared this between two people, and that proved an excellent idea. The fried chicken was excellent.

Sometimes accidents are happy things. Part of the joy of Las Vegas for me is the escape of it all. I was able to stay in a two bedroom penthouse at the Aria Sky Suites a few years ago, and Le Cirque in the Bellagio is one of my favorite places to eat. I pretend I am a high roller. Happily, however, I recently traveled with friends who do Vegas very differently. That meant I tried places I might not otherwise have sampled, and Bruxie Las Vegas was a happy accident they helped me discover. They serve excellent fried chicken, have reasonable prices, and are an excellent stop if you are anywhere near the New York New York. Continue reading “Bruxie Las Vegas for excellent fried chicken”

Bellagio Buffet for a quick meal in Las Vegas

The Bellagio buffet in Las Vegas.
The Bellagio buffet in Las Vegas isn’t as large as some, but it offers plenty of choices. Those choices are presented well.

When it first opened, the Bellagio buffet was probably the nicest one in Las Vegas. 15 or 20 years ago, I remember friends coming home and raving about it. It is still very good. There are plenty of choices, they are presented well, and everything is clean and in good order. Unfortunately, it is no longer one of the best in Las Vegas. Dine Drink Travel will review the Bacchanal buffet at Caesar’s in February, and the Wynn buffet also offers a lot more choices. The Bellagio buffet is a great place to get a quick meal, and it is perfect if you are already at the hotel. It just isn’t worth taking a special trip. This review covers a brunch I ate there with my wife last month. Continue reading “Bellagio Buffet for a quick meal in Las Vegas”

La King’s Confectionary in Galveston

La King’s Confectionary in Galveston, Texas. Go hear to know exactly what it feels like to be a kid in a candy store.

You have heard the expression “kid in a candy store,” but you probably don’t know– don’t really know– what that means. Old school candy stores a a dying breed, and it is hard to find a master of the craft. Happily, a few old school candy stores are still around. La King’s Confectionary in Galveston is the grand champion of the bunch. As a bonus, you are probably in Galveston on a day when it is hot outside, and delicious ice cream treats are always a good idea in that case. Continue reading “La King’s Confectionary in Galveston”

Olympia Grill Pier 21 Galveston, TX

Shrimp cocktail and a martini at Olympia at Pier 21 in Galveston, Texas.

We took a cruise earlier this year and got to Galveston a day early. I already wrote about the fantastic lunch we had that day, and by dinner the rest of our party had showed up. When we cruised in 2015 out of Galveston, our party of 6 had eaten at Olympia Grill on their Seawall location. This year, however, we were a party of 12 and wanted to eat on the harbor side nearer the cruise pier. We called and made reservations at Olympia Grill at Pier 21. They were able to accommodate our very large party, and we got great seats outside on the water. It was a fantastic way to spend our last regular meal on land.
