Everyone on the Dine Drink Travel team loves Galveston. A Galveston cruise is a great vacation, and it is even better when you spend some time on the island. We have plenty of reviews of the hotels, restaurants, parking, and attractions on the island. We go there every year, usually more than once, regardless of whether we even have a cruise. Speaking of, we have 4 cruises out of Galveston scheduled between December 2021 and December 2022. Look for more after each of those trips.
There is a temptation to stay on the mainland before your Galveston cruise. We get it. Hotels are cheaper just across the bridge, and many hotels in Galveston require a two night minimum. However, there are budget options like the Hampton Inn. We stayed there on Hilton points in 2015 and 2017. We have also stayed at the Tremont, the Galvez, and the Harbor House. Those may be better options if your budget allows. In the case of the Tremont and Harbor House, you can also walk from the hotel to the cruise pier. We will try to stay somewhere new in 2022, and we will update you on how that works out.
Obviously, if you stay in Galveston for a couple of nights you will need something to do. The picture at the top of this page is of La King’s Confectionary. That. Place. Is. Amazing. We also enjoy touring the ships at the American Undersea Warfare Center. We have reviewed several of the restaurants, and we look forward to enjoying even more. Our favorite spot to eat is at Hubcap Grill, because it turns out that burgers and bourbon just go together. Miller’s Seawall Grill is also great, particularly for breakfast.
