Bill’s Guide to Rooftop Bars
- Are any of these spots downtown?
Legacy Club on top of Circa is gorgeous, and Binion’s isn’t technically a rooftop bar but offers a similar ambiance.
- Which spots are actually open to the air?
Legacy Club has a large open patio, although you will want to reserve that space specifically. SkyFall on top of the W is partially outdoors, but mostly indoors. Rivea next door also has indoor seating. Most of the spots tend to be indoors. On further reflection, I suppose drinking and rooftops might be an imperfect combination.
- Which places have you not tried yet?
I have not yet been to Foundation Room on top of Mandalay Bay. John, should be try to work that in to the Labor Day trip? I am also intrigued by GhostBar at Palms. They have what they describe as a “cigar friendly terrace.”
- What is the one you most want to go back to?
I am a big fan of Skyfall, partially because the ambiance next to Rivea is really nice. I actually talked to the bartender. That felt weird.
- Which one is most overrated?
All of them are good experiences. Alle 66 is further up the Strip and views are probably, technically, somehow a little less good and they seemed to appeal to a younger crowd. Skybar in the Waldorf Astoria is beautiful, but the bar mostly feels like just a premium hotel bar. In honorable mentions, the liquor on the Linq carousel bar is only OK.
- John, I have a closing question for you. What is the baller on a budget approach to rooftop bars?
BrewDog and Beer Park both are affordable options for your elevated view. Also, the Happy Half Hour Bar-car on the Linq High Roller, while not cheap, is affordable and a ton of fun
Vegas News
Scott at VV reports that new Loop stations are open at Ecore and Westgate, with a Virgin stop up next followed by a stop at the Thomas & Mack Center at UNLV, a mere 2500 feet from the Airport, meaning that getting from the Airport to the North Strip and back via The Loop will soon be possible. (The Westgate station is below their Monorail station, so airport to Westgate to the mid-strip via The Loop and Monorail will be possible, though cumbersome, too)
He also says Clique at Cosmo will be closed for remodeling from May until sometime this Fall
And he says Daphne’s Cocktail Lounge sill take over the former Downtown Cocktail Room in Fremont East
AP and the Las Vegas Review Journal are reporting that the A’s remain on schedule for a June groundbreaking for their $1.75 billion stadium, and this week the architect shared some of the plans.
LVRJ reports that MGM is laying off concierge staff at six resorts– MGM Grand, The Signature, NYNY, Mandalay Bay, Park MGM, and Vdara. Aria, Bellagio, and Cosmo will keep their concierges, and concierge calls to MGM resorts will route to Aria and Bellagio.
And in Vegas WTF? News, Sin City Alerts on X shared that shoppers at a mall on the Strip reported one guest enjoying himself a little too, uh, personally, while looking at showgirls cards
