I always get to Galveston early before a cruise. I want to avoid the stress of late flights. More to the point, a couple of days in Galveston is an important part of my vacation. I also work hard to find new and interesting places to eat. When staying at the Hotel Galvez this year, we walked across the street to Miller’s Seawall Grill for breakfast. I am glad we did. It was amazing.

The pork fajitas and grits at Miller's Seawall Grill are so good that I am a little upset I didn't think of them first.

We woke up hungry at the Hotel Galvez. That hotel is amazing, but I didn’t want a hotel breakfast. We walked next door to Miller’s. We got there at about 8:30 on a Saturday morning and were quickly seated. Do be aware of the parking situation. The parking lot is extremely tight. If you are driving there, leave yourself enough time to find a good parking spot.

The service was speedy. Our problem was deciding what to eat. I went with the pork fajitas and grits, and those were amazing. One of my kids had the Belgian waffle, and another had French toast. We had friends who walked in later. They sat at a different table and ordered a wide variety of things. Everyone enjoyed what they ate, even if it couldn’t possibly be as good as my dish. I took a PDF of the entire menu if you care to peruse the options.

So what’s the downside?

Miller’s Seawall Grill is fantastic. I would go there again in a heartbeat. There were, however, two small problems and one larger one. I already mentioned one of the problems– the parking lot of small and awkward. Consider parking on the street. The second small problem is that it got awfully crowded by the time we left. Try to get there reasonably early to make sure you can get a table quickly.

The only larger problem was the drinks. My coffee was fine. The kids enjoyed their orange juice and chocolate mile. However, since it was vacation I decided to order a Bloody Mary. The waitress warned me that it was made with a weird white wine concoction rather than proper vodka. It tasted… awful. I would not order that again.

In spite of those drawbacks, however, I am very much looking forward to my next trip to Miller’s. It has an old school charm. The building is unusual, and there is a lot of pretty woodwork inside. More to the point, the food is amazing. It is conveniently located to many hotels, and it is right across the street from the beach. I will, however, get a cocktail somewhere else next time.
