Best Bar in Galveston

The single best bar in Galveston? I would head to the Tremont House. Pictured here is the Toujouse Bar located in the main lobby, although there are two excellent candidates at the hotel.

Galveston is an amazing place to visit. I intentionally get there early for every cruise we take to spend a couple of days in the city. Sometimes I go there just for the city itself. When I do that, I pretty much always want an evening cocktail. Happily, there are a lot of great and family-friendly watering holes. Unfortunately, it is hard to pick out a single favorite. We give an honorable mention nod to our friends at Hubcap Grill. Actually, that *is* the best bar in Galveston if you know you want bourbon. If you want a wider selection, however, and a different ambience, you should check out the Tremont House Hotel.

Oasis Class to Galveston? Royal Caribbean still planning to build Galveston Terminal 3.

This feels like a strange sentence to write, but here goes. I have good news for Galveston cruise fans. That was a lot of fun to write, so I think I will do it again. After months of no cruises at all, I have good news for Galveston cruise fans. I talked about it a little more on the YouTube channel, but it looks like Royal Caribbean still plans to build the new Galveston Terminal 3. As we discussed last year, that at least opens up the possibility of an Oasis Class ship in Galveston.

Best hamburger in Galveston

Hubcap Grill offers the best hamburger in Galveston. They also have the best bourbon selection on the island.

I am not a skinny man. There are lots of reasons for this, and one of the biggest is beef. One of the others is bourbon. I have had a great deal of both. I have now had hamburgers on four and a half continents (depending on how you count Central America). So, when I say this next bit it is out of considerable experience: Not only does Hubcap Grill have the best hamburger in Galveston, it is the best hamburger I have ever had. They also have an impressive bourbon selection, and I have already demanded that my family return when we are in Galveston this Summer for our cruise.

Hotels within walking distance of the Galveston cruise pier

There are two hotels within walking distance of the Galveston cruise pier. Pictured here is the lobby of the Tremont House, the more upscale of the two options.

Galveston is my favorite city to cruise from. There is so much to do, and the city itself becomes a major part of the vacation. Beyond that, it is always a good idea to get to town at least one day before a cruise. You don’t want to miss the ship because your plane was late. We usually drive to Galveston, and that means I need a place to park my car. Last month, however, I flew to IAH, got a car service from the airport to Galveston, and was in town without a car. That meant I had to look up hotels within walking distance. Happily, there were two excellent options. I took video of the walk between each of them and the cruise pier.

Miller’s Seawall Grill

Miller’s Seawall Grill is located next to the Hotel Galvez in Galveston. It is a fantastic breakfast and lunch spot.

I always get to Galveston early before a cruise. I want to avoid the stress of late flights. More to the point, a couple of days in Galveston is an important part of my vacation. I also work hard to find new and interesting places to eat. When staying at the Hotel Galvez this year, we walked across the street to Miller’s Seawall Grill for breakfast. I am glad we did. It was amazing.
