Hubcap Grill offers the best hamburger in Galveston. They also have the best bourbon selection on the island.

I am not a skinny man. There are lots of reasons for this, and one of the biggest is beef. One of the others is bourbon. I have had a great deal of both. I have now had hamburgers on four and a half continents (depending on how you count Central America). So, when I say this next bit it is out of considerable experience: Not only does Hubcap Grill have the best hamburger in Galveston, it is the best hamburger I have ever had. They also have an impressive bourbon selection, and I have already demanded that my family return when we are in Galveston this Summer for our cruise.

Miller’s Seawall Grill

Miller’s Seawall Grill is located next to the Hotel Galvez in Galveston. It is a fantastic breakfast and lunch spot.

I always get to Galveston early before a cruise. I want to avoid the stress of late flights. More to the point, a couple of days in Galveston is an important part of my vacation. I also work hard to find new and interesting places to eat. When staying at the Hotel Galvez this year, we walked across the street to Miller’s Seawall Grill for breakfast. I am glad we did. It was amazing.

Stuttgarden Tavern Galveston restaurant

Stuttgarden Tavern is located near the Galveston Cruise Pier. They have ample seating both indoor and outdoor.

When we sailed this Summer, we had a big group. We wanted to eat dinner together, but not many restaurants are equipped to seat 14 people. Happily, we stumbled on Stuttgarden Tavern. It is located near the cruise pier, and they have cavernous seating both indoors and out. The grub at this Galveston restaurant isn’t fancy. It is, however, very good.

Willie G’s for a pre-cruise meal

Willie G’s isn’t our favorite place in Galveston, but it is a solid option right on the pier.

For us, cruising out of Galveston isn’t just about the cruise. It is also about Galveston. We enjoy the city, and we always get there a couple of days early to enjoy it. Normally, we enjoy our first meal at Fisherman’s Wharf. This time we decided to try Willie G’s. This wasn’t our favorite spot in Galveston, but it was still a solid place to have lunch.

Fisherman’s Wharf Galveston, Texas

Outdoor seating at Fisherman’s Wharf in Galveston, Texas.

My family has always loved Galveston as a vacation spot. We were there before a cruise on the Navigator of the Seas in 2015 and again before a cruise on the Liberty of the Seas in 2017, and it is also a great destination in it’s own right. We wanted to get our cruise vacation off to a strong start, so we started with lunch at one of our favorite spots– Fisherman’s Wharf, which is located walking distance from the cruise piers.  It is a Landry’s outpost, and I normally try to stay clear of big chain places when I am on vacation, but they do awfully good work with seafood in a very nice setting. If the weather permits it, ask for a table outside on the pier. Continue reading “Fisherman’s Wharf Galveston, Texas”
