Royal Caribbean formally announced this week that the Allure of the Seas, an Oasis Class ship, will be sailing from Galveston. Sailings begin November 2021. The Allure is one of the largest ships at sea, and her proportions are truly massive. What should Texas cruisers expect?
First, the ship is undergoing a major redesign next Summer. That means that several features– particularly high speed waterslides– are being added. Allure of the Seas Galveston sailings start November 2021 with a freshly redesigned ship. It will, of course, be the largest ship to ever sail from Texas.
Texas cruisers cannot yet book the Allure. Look for that to open up early next week. As we discussed on December 8, there are still several other spaces to fill in the Royal Caribbean schedule. First, Royal almost always sails two ships from Galveston. The Allure will primarily sail 7 night itineraries. It is certainly possible that the Allure will be the only Royal Caribbean ship sailing from Galveston. However, I expect Royal to add a second ship when the Adventure departs in Summer 2021. I expect that ship to stay when the Allure replaces the Liberty of the Seas.
What about other lines sailing from Galveston
Additionally, Royal Caribbean is not the only cruise line impacted here. Carnival sails four ships from Galveston. With additional pier space, they may elect to change the number or type of ships they have on offer. Also, Princess and Norwegian sailed from the Port of Houston a few years ago. That port was unworkable. I have no specific information, but I will watch their plans closely. The addition of a new pier certainly creates new opportunities.
